4th of July

For the Oklahoma Joe’s user, Independence day is best celebrated with family, fireworks, and smoked meat. That’s why I drew inspiration from the calligraphic chalk drawings you might find in a deli. The gritty texture of the chalk is a great match for the Oklahoma Joe’s branding, and the patriotic imagery was appreciated by OKJ’s follower’s on Facebook.

Process

Halloween

What’s a better treat for a smoking fanatic then some delicious “meat candy”? When I was asked to make a Halloween Instagram post for a burnt ends recipe, I decided that the best place to put them is right in the candy bucket.

Thankgiving

Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand, so when demonstrating how to properly carve a turkey, I pulled visuals from football play diagrams.

Father’s day

Oklahoma Joe’s created a multi-brand sweepstakes to celebrate Father’s Day with Char-Broil grills, Quantum fishing equipment, Badlands hunting gear, and a Tiki fire-pit. I was challenged with giving multiple brands equal billing in a single post and sticking with a design that wouldn’t stand out on each different social media page. I chose to make a photo collage that shows the winning dad’s excellent Father’s Day.

Memorial Day

Due to my upbringing on an Army base, I had apprehensions when I was asked to make a post wishing OKJ’s follower’s a “Happy Memorial Day”. While well-meaning, the use of the word “Happy” has a strange tone when paired with such a dour holiday. In the process images bellow, you will see where I designed with the requested copy, but included a few examples of how it could be respectfully reworded. The wording we settled on in the end: “Memorial Day, Honoring Service and Sacrifice” has a perfect balance.
